]]>In today’s world, we rely on electronic devices and appliances for almost everything we do. Whether it’s for work or leisure, we need power to keep our devices running. But, do you ever think about the quality of the cables you’re using to power your devices? Using UL approved cables can make a significant difference in the safety and performance of your electronics.
UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, an independent global safety consulting and certification company that has been around since 1894. UL tests and certifies products based on rigorous safety standards to ensure they meet specific performance criteria. UL certification is a voluntary process, but it is highly recommended to use UL approved products for their superior quality and safety features.
Using UL approved cables is crucial because it helps ensure that your devices are safe and perform at their best. Here are some reasons why you should consider using UL approved cables:
When purchasing cables, always look for the UL certification mark on the product label or packaging. This mark indicates that the product has been tested and certified by UL and meets specific safety and performance criteria.
Using UL approved cables is essential for the safety and performance of your electronic devices. UL certification ensures that the cables you’re using meet specific safety and quality standards, and are compatible with your devices. Investing in UL approved cables can help reduce the risk of hazards and ensure your devices perform at their best.

]]>As we start 2022 and reflect back on 2021 it is clear that Covid continues to have an adverse effect on availability of products within the cable and electronics industry. The global shut down of factories meant that raw materials weren't coming through the supply chain and the industry has been unable to catch up on the shortfall even 2 years later.
Standard lead times for cable have gone from a 6-8 week lead time on new production to anywhere between 22-62 weeks ( yes 62 weeks ), As customers find they are unable to source " normal" standard products they are increasing their stock orders which is further compounding the manufacturing capacity issues.
In some case the raw plastic , PUR , Telfon materials themselves are becoming difficult to source and with increased demands at production stages the whole supply chain is unable to fill the void between demand and supply.
We would recommend that customer consider 20 + weeks to be the new normal when looking at stock requirements for the foreseeable future and certainly through 2022.
Should you have trouble sourcing any cable requirements then please contact our sales team on sales@cablesandcomponents.com and we will do our best to search the market for a cable that suits your requirements.

]]>In this blog, we explore the reasons CCTV cable demand has increased and why choosing the right cable can help to keep your property safe…
CCTV provides benefits for both private and commercial properties. CCTV helps to protect properties from theft, arson, and unauthorized entry. As well as providing evidence should the worst happen, camera systems also act as a deterrent for would be troublemakers.
CCTV can save businesses money when compared with traditional security, especially during lockdown where buildings may stand empty for long periods of time. If your business does use manned security, CCTV offers an additional level of protection for both the guards and your property. Should a guard be off ill, CCTV will keep a watchful eye over your premises in the absence of a security team.
CCTV cables come in different types. There should be an emphasis on quality when it comes to CCTV cables, as you will want a good quality image. Poor cable choice can affect the picture, rendering your CCTV useless. CCTV systems also need a reliable power supply to ensure they’re able to operate at all times.
Ethernet and Coaxial cable types are usually used for CCTV. Ethernet cables are generally good for data transmission, while analogue camera installers should consider using RG59 cables which are part of the Coaxial cable family. Most commonly, the RG59 ‘siamese’ or ‘shotgun’ as it’s called, is a version that’s often preferred because it offers both the coaxial cable and power cable together as one.
The RG59 CCTV cable is generally the most widely used on the market. It is used by most CCTV installers as it can provide a strong video signal, however it does need to be used with a connector to ensure power supply reaches the device. However, as with any cable – the key to choosing the right one comes down to its usage. The RG59 cable is best used where cable needs to run over a longer distance, it also tends to last longer thanks to how robust it is, but all CCTV systems will need maintenance at some point during their lifespan. RG59 coax cable is ultimately the industry standard and best choice for CCTV systems.
Joining CCTV power cable is made simpler if you buy cables with connectors installed. Since this increases the cost, you may wish to buy bulk cables without the connectors and do this part yourself.
It’s worth considering if the cable needs to be pulled through walls, cables without pre-installed connectors can make this process easier.
A frequently asked question is ‘how to join CCTV cable?’
The wires should be placed through the back of the junction box, and the box needs to be attached to the desired surface. Once this has been completed, and the cables have been correctly terminated with the suitable connectors, you should be able to easily connect the camera to both the power and video output.
Smart homes have become popular. With homeowners renovating in lockdown, upgrading home tech has become more accessible. A wide variety of applications are now available, that’s able to control things remotely such as lighting, kitchen appliances, heating systems and more. This of course includes security systems and CCTV. As many of these are reliant on the internet to function, any cables used need to ensure signals are transmitted effectively and with minimum disruption. You may want to consider smart wiring for ease of management if you’re going to be building a smart home.

]]>The post New Rules for UK / EU Relationship appeared first on Cables And Components.
]]>From Jan 1st 2021 the UK has changed its trading relationship with the EU ( Brexit ) and this means that our customers will experience changes to the way items are shipped and fees that will apply on receipt of their orders.
This is affecting all orders shipped from the UK to customers in the EU and rather than stop customers from within the EU from purchasing our products we are still allowing orders. It does mean however that there are additional steps to the purchase and we need to ask for more information than normal. In addition to this information you will now have fees to pay on arrival of goods.
Previously our pricing included 20% UK VAT however this has now been removed from the pricing you see ( when viewing from an EU location ) it does mean however that the localized VAT will need to be paid on arrival of the goods.
For goods with a country of origin outside the UK or the EU a DUTY charge will also apply on arrival of your goods.
We will also need customers to provide us with their Tax ID ( TIN ) at point of order or their EORI number if they are purchasing as a business.
So in summary please be aware that on arrival of your cable you will have additional costs of between 8-20% Duty and your local VAT Tax rate will need to be paid. We are making this as clear as we can at order placement so should you chose to reject the goods and fail to pay the fees the goods will be returned to us and the original shipping costs , return costs , any freight or government fees plus an additional 10% handling fee will be removed from any potential refund of your order.

]]>There are lots of different industry names for cables required in repeat motion applications ie those applications where a cable is moving in a single axis of motion either vertical or horizontal so we will try and help break the confusion on these cables in this post.
Every manufacturer has their own brand name however these are the common generic terms:
Generally all the cables are the same for the first 9 and although insulation and jacket materials change as does screening options. Manufacturers will of tested to millions of cycles on a test bed and often will state that their cables are good for x million of cycles. These cables are all designed and laid for single axis motion and can be used in or out of a plastic drag chain, generally a class 6 conductor giving it very good flexibility.
The confusion starts to come into the equation when people refer to these cables as robotic cables they are not, A robotic cable is designed for twisting and torsion applications like for instance on a Robot ( hence the name) and robotic cables have a completely different internal lay length and design and do each cable does not suit the others application.
Here at Cables & Components we partner with Lapp Cables to bring you a range of FD cables with FD standing for Flexible Drag Chain, Lapp are the world leader in cable technology and offer a range of both screened and un-screened and both PVC and PUR sheath materials depending on the environmental requirements.
We offer a selected range on the site here however if you have a requirement outside of these cables please do not hesitate to contact our sales team for help and support.
